The Wallbox Pulsar Plus and Tesla Wall Connector are two of the most popular home EV chargers installed in Maryland. Both are high-quality Level 2 chargers, but they serve different use cases. The Wallbox is universal and rebate-eligible; the Tesla Wall Connector is Tesla-optimized and faster for Tesla vehicles.
Speed and Power
The Tesla Wall Connector maxes out at 48A (11.5 kW), delivering up to 44 miles of range per hour for compatible Tesla models. The Wallbox Pulsar Plus also delivers 48A, putting both at essentially the same peak charging speed. The difference is in vehicle-side limiting: Teslas can accept the full 48A from the Wall Connector, while some non-Tesla EVs limit onboard AC charging to 32A or less regardless of charger output.
Rebate Eligibility
The Wallbox Pulsar Plus is ENERGY STAR certified and Wi-Fi enabled, making it eligible for BGE's $300 Smart Charger rebate and Pepco's rebate. The Tesla Wall Connector is not eligible for Maryland utility rebates. For BGE customers, the Wallbox effectively costs $349 after rebate — cheaper than the Tesla unit before rebates.
App and Smart Features
The Wallbox app offers granular charging schedules, real-time power monitoring, charging history, and push notifications. The Tesla Wall Connector integrates deeply with the Tesla app for Tesla owners, including vehicle-to-charger communication for optimal charge scheduling. If you drive a Tesla, the Wall Connector's integration is seamless. If you drive anything else, Wallbox's app is excellent.
Installation Notes
Both chargers require a dedicated 240V, 60A circuit (50A breaker). Both can be installed by any licensed electrician. The Tesla Wall Connector hardwires directly — no outlet option. The Wallbox Pulsar Plus can be hardwired or connected via NEMA 14-50, giving you more flexibility for future removal or relocation.
