The Complete Guide to Maryland EV Charger Rebates in 2026

March 2026
5 min read

Maryland offers some of the best EV charger rebates in the country. MEA residential rebate, BGE smart charger rebate, Pepco incentives — here's how to claim every dollar.

Maryland's Rebate Landscape

Maryland homeowners who install an EV charger in 2026 have access to stacked rebates that can cover 50% or more of the total installation cost. The state's Maryland Energy Administration (MEA), combined with utility-specific programs from BGE, Pepco, Delmarva, and SMECO, make Maryland one of the most financially attractive states for home EV charging infrastructure.

MEA Residential Clean Energy Grant

The Maryland Energy Administration offers a residential rebate that covers up to 50% of the installed cost of an EV charger and related electrical work, capped at $700. To qualify, the charger must be a Level 2 (240V) unit installed by a licensed Maryland electrician, and you must own the property. The application is submitted after installation — your electrician should provide all necessary documentation including the permit and inspection record.

BGE Smart Charger Rebate

BGE customers can receive up to $300 for installing a qualifying smart charger. The charger must be Wi-Fi enabled and capable of participating in BGE's demand response program, which allows BGE to slightly delay charging during peak grid demand. Compatible chargers include the ChargePoint Home Flex, Wallbox Pulsar Plus, and several Enel X and Emporia models. You'll register the charger through BGE's portal after installation.

Pepco and Delmarva Programs

Pepco (serving Montgomery and Prince George's counties) offers a rebate of up to $150 for qualifying smart chargers. Delmarva Power customers on the Eastern Shore can access similar programs. Check your utility's website or ask your installer to confirm current rebate amounts — these programs refresh annually and amounts can change.

Federal Tax Credit: Don't Leave Money on the Table

On top of state and utility rebates, the federal Alternative Fuel Vehicle Refueling Property Credit (30C) allows you to deduct 30% of EV charger installation costs from your federal income taxes, up to $1,000 for residential installations. This credit was extended through 2032 under the Inflation Reduction Act. Combined with Maryland's MEA rebate, a $1,200 installation could effectively cost you under $400 out of pocket.

How to Stack All Three

The key is sequencing: install first, claim the MEA rebate (takes 4–8 weeks), then file the federal tax credit on your annual return. Utility rebates are separate applications and don't affect the others. A licensed installer familiar with Maryland's rebate programs — like MD EV Install — can walk you through the paperwork at no extra charge.
