BGE Smart Charger Rebate: How to Claim Up to $300 in Maryland
BGE offers up to $300 for qualifying smart EV chargers. Here's exactly how to claim it, which chargers qualify, and common mistakes to avoid.
What the BGE Rebate Covers
BGE's Smart Charger Rebate program reimburses residential customers up to $300 for the purchase and installation of a qualifying Level 2 smart EV charger. The charger must be Wi-Fi enabled, ENERGY STAR certified, and capable of participating in BGE's demand response program. The rebate applies to chargers installed at BGE-served residential properties — single family, townhome, or condo where you're the account holder.
Qualifying Chargers
BGE maintains an approved charger list on their website. Currently qualifying models include: ChargePoint Home Flex, Wallbox Pulsar Plus, Emporia Level 2 Smart Charger, Enel X JuiceBox 40, and several others. Tesla Wall Connector and basic hardwired chargers without smart features do not qualify. Always confirm your specific charger model is on the current approved list before purchase.
How to Apply
The application is submitted online through BGE's rebate portal after installation. You'll need: proof of purchase (receipt), proof you're a BGE account holder, the electrician's permit and inspection record, and the charger's serial number. The rebate typically arrives as a check within 6–8 weeks. There's no pre-approval required — it's a post-installation rebate.
Stacking with the MEA Rebate
The BGE rebate is completely separate from the Maryland MEA residential rebate (up to $700). You can claim both. You can also take the federal 30% tax credit. A $699 ChargePoint Home Flex, after BGE's $300 rebate, is $399. Subtract 30% federal credit on the installation costs, and the effective cost drops further. Keep every receipt.
